The Quest - making of ...

English version follows

Zapraszam.

Warhammer/Malifaux diorama I presented on my blog in November (see The Quest) is also one of the few of my works I took pictures at every stage of creation. Therefore, I would like to present you the process of making it step-by-step.

Podstawą dioramy uczyniłem dwa, ogólnodostępne rekwizyty - okrągłą, drewnianą ramkę na zdjęcia (około 12 PLN) i okrągłe, ażurowe pudełeczko z drewnianych listewek (również 12 PLN). Ramka posłużyła mi za "kolumnę" dioramy a pudełeczko za podstawę całej scenerii. Obie rzeczy można kupić w każdym sklepie z dekoracjami do domu.

To create the base for my diorama I used a round wooden photo frame (cost about EUR 3) and a round, openwork box made of wooden slats (also  EUR 3). The frame served as a 'pillar' for my diorama and a box as a foundation for the whole scenery. Both can be bought at any home decoration store.

Oba przedmioty skleiłem ze sobą a boki pudełka przyciąłem do pożądanej wysokości. W środek wkleiłem dodatkowo listwę aby w następnym kroku zużyć po prostu mniej masy modelarskiej.

I glued both objects together and I cut the sides of the box to the desired height. I also put a slat in the middle just to save the modeling putty used in next steps.

Wnętrze wypełniłem masą Milliput (yellow-grey) i przykleiłem duży kawałek kory drzewa. Na pozostałej powierzchni masę posypałem piaskiem i przycisnąłem uzyskując niechropowatą fakturę ziemi.

I used modeling putty Milliput (yellow-grey) all over the base and put a large piece of tree bark into it. I sprinkle remaining surface with sand and press it to get a rough texture of the earth.

Następnego dnia kiedy masa stwardniała na kamień pomalowałem całość czarnym podkładem w sprayu (Chaos Black od Citadel) i dodatkowo białawym Corax White (Citadel).

After a day the milluput hardened and I painted the whole with Chaos Black Spray (Citadel) and also with Corax White (Citadel).

Czas na kolorki. Jako bazowych użyłem Flat Earth (Vallejo) na skałkach i Bestial Brown (Citadel) na całej reszcie.

Time to add some colours. As base I used Flat Earth (Vallejo) on the rock and Bestial Brown (Citadel) on the rest of the scene.

Następnie pobawiłem się washami - Red Tone (The Army Painter), Nuln Oil (Citadel), Green Tone (The Army Painter), Seraphim Sephia (Citadel) oraz Agrax Earthshade (Citadel).

Next I played with the washes - Red Tone (The Army Painter), Nuln Oil (Citadel), Green Tone (The Army Painter), Seraphim Sephia (Citadel) and Agrax Earthshade (Citadel).

Kolejnym krokiem było przytwierdzenie do sceny pomalowanych przeze mnie wcześniej "elementów wystroju" w postaci skrzyń i koszy z różnorakimi towarami. Elementy pochodzą z zestawu Food Supplies Terrian firmy Rustical Extraordinary Market.

The next step was to attach to the stage a "decor elements" in the form of crates and baskets with various goods I painted earlier. Items are part of the Food Supplies Terrian set produced by Rustical Extraordinary Market.

Drzewka to już prawdziwe gałązki. Wybrałem z pobliskich krzaków te najfajniejsze i pomalowałem kolorem Bestial Brown (Citadel).

The trees I made from the real twigs. I chose the coolest from the nearby bushes and I painted them with Bestial Brown (Citadel). Then I put a PVA glue on the crown of trees and put them in a bag full of withered birch seeds. I collected the seeds in the summer before they were fully developed, which is why they have a very interesting, spherical shape. Collected later would have a shape like a real leaves. You can see them on my previous diorama - King's Woods.

I ostatni etap to wysmarowanie wszystkiego suchymi pigmentami. Wszystkie marki Vallejo - Dark Red Ochre, Chrome Oxide Green, Natural Umber i Rust.

And the last stage - dry pigments. All from Vallejo - Dark Red Ochre, Chrome Oxide Green, Natural Umber and Rust.

Więcej zdjęć skończonej dioramy w oddzielnym artykule - The Quest.

The end of the work came when I attached the trees and miniatures I painted earlier - Stormcast Eternals Liberator and Terror Tots. I used 'Mountain Tuft' (The Army Painter) to get final effect below. More photos of finished diorama in a separate article - The Quest.
